The intake and exhaust processes in the air compressor are similar to the oil suction and oil pressure processes of the hydraulic pump. A compressor of this construction always has a residual volume at the end of the discharge process. During the next inhalation, the compressed air in the remaining volume will expand, thereby reducing the amount of air inhaled, reducing efficiency and increasing compression work.
And due to the existence of the residual volume, when the compression ratio increases, the temperature rises sharply. Ammonia compressors are mostly used as the host in large and medium-sized refrigeration systems, while Freon compressors are mostly used as the host in small refrigeration systems.

Single-rod machines have "air-entraining channels" in their design, and the gas forces on both ends of the worm are balanced with each other. The worm is not affected by any axial or radial gas force to reach its own balance [visible force analysis diagram], and the force on the star wheel is only about 1/30 of the force on the twin-screw worm, so the mechanical noise is small.
The lubricant is required to have a good adaptability to the seal to avoid damage to the seal. For some mobile screw air compressors, especially in the environment prone to fire and explosion accidents, some machinery requires the use of good flame resistance lubricants, and flammable mineral oil cannot be used.
